Upcountry Success (UPS) is a grassroots social enterprise and community movement founded in Abothuguchi West Ward, Meru County, Kenya. UPS was established to address rural youth unemployment by tackling one of its most persistent barriers: lack of start-up capital. Through mentorship, resource mobilization, and collaboration with senior members of society and well-wishers, UPS empowers rural youth to initiate income-generating projects without requiring personal financial contributions.

Since its inception in 2016, UPS has successfully tested and refined a community-led development model that integrates economic empowerment, education, mentorship, environmental stewardship, and social cohesion. The movement aligns its work with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is committed to scaling its impact across rural communities in Kenya and beyond.

Upcountry Success is a movement of mentors, mobilizers, and community builders. We organize rural youth into small, disciplined teams and connect them with mentors, benefactors, and opportunities within their own communities. Our work bridges generational, economic, and social gaps by fostering cooperation between young people and senior members of society.

We are also educators, pace-setters, and Eco pals. Through Kids Book Clubs, Adult Book Clubs, and community forums, we nurture responsible citizenship, a culture of reading, and lifelong learning. As environmental stewards, we promote tree planting, waste management, and sustainable rural ecosystems. Above all, we are believers in the power of community-driven solutions and shared responsibility for progress.

To eliminate idling of the youth in the village markets, create economic opportunities for them, and lower rural youth unemployment rate to 5% in all our operative Wards.
